Welcome to the Laramie Police Department recruitment page for 911 Emergency Communication Operators. This will be your resource for information regarding the application process, testing, and other clarifying steps.
To be considered as a 911 Emergency Communication Operator Recruit, the applicant must meet the following minimum qualifications:
- Be a U.S. citizen.
- Graduated from an accredited high school or successfully completed the GED (General Education Development) test.
- Knowledge and experience with computers; including a minimum typing speed of 40 words per minute.
- Organizational, communication, and multitasking skills are required.
**A two-hour minimum observation in the Emergency Communication Center is required before an interview will be scheduled (exceptions may be granted for out-of-town applicants). **
Hiring Process

- Complete the two-hour minimum observation in the Emergency Communication Center
- Interview panel with four to six individuals.
ALL APPLICANTS WHO PASS THE INITIAL STAGES OF TESTING WILL BE PLACED ON THE ELIGIBILITY LIST FOR ONE YEAR.
- A supervised typing test and a computer-based skills assessment must be passed with an 80% proficiency rating or higher to move forward in the hiring process.
- Successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation and driver’s license check
Successful applicants can be given a conditional offer for hire. Applicants then must pass:
- A polygraph examination
- A psychological evaluation
- A medical evaluation including eyes, ears, and drug screening.
Training Process
A minimum of 24 weeks is taken to familiarize the trainee with departmental policies and procedures. This progressive course is designed to help the recruit become comfortable with and master all the aspects of emergency communications. Recruits are paid while training is ongoing.
