6th Penny/Specific Purpose Tax
6th Penny Specific Purpose Tax Renewal
The Albany County Commissioners, Laramie City Council and Rock River Town Council adopted a joint resolution establishing how the Specific Purpose Tax money would be used. Referred to as the “6th Penny” sales tax, it must be used for specific capital construction projects only; it may not be used for general governmental operations. If this specific purpose excise tax is approved by the voters of Albany County on May 5th, the sales and use tax rate would remain the same in Albany County, and capital projects included on the ballot for the City of Laramie, Albany County, Town of Rock River, and the Laramie Regional Airport would receive funding.
The vote to renew will occur as a special election on May 5th. 2026. For voting information in Albany County, WY, click here.
