Public Safety Response to Fireworks Materials – Evacuation Lifted

LARAMIE, WY – On the afternoon of July 2, 2025, the Laramie Police Department, in coordination with the Laramie Fire Department, Albany County Emergency Management, Regional Response Team #3, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), responded to a potential explosive materials hazard located at a residence in the 500 block of Beaufort Street in the Prairie’s Edge subdivision.

At approximately 2:00 PM, emergency responders were notified that materials consistent with those used in the production of large-scale fireworks had been discovered inside the home. The homeowner had recently passed away, and the materials were located by a family member while cleaning the property. As a precautionary measure, law enforcement initiated an emergency evacuation of the area, with residents directed to the Eppson Center at 1560 N 3rd Street.

Hazardous materials teams worked diligently throughout the evening to safely secure and remove the items. The FBI and ATF were notified and responded to assist in confirming the chemical composition, potential hazards, and appropriate handling procedures related to the materials. At approximately 10:15 PM, officials determined that the situation had been stabilized and the evacuation order was lifted for all previously evacuated residents. No injuries have been reported in connection with this incident.

The Laramie Police Department extends sincere thanks to our community members for their swift cooperation and understanding, as well as to the Laramie Fire Department, Albany County Emergency Management, and all local, state, and federal partners for their professionalism and coordination.

This incident remains under investigation, and this information is subject to change. For additional information, please reach out to Albany County Homeland Security/Emergency Management Coordinator Kate Allred.
