The City of Laramie, Parks & Recreation Department is pleased to announce that the Undine Pickleball Court project has been completed and is ready for play. Evergreen Tennis Courts, Inc. completed the re-surfacing and striping project by placing two coats of green and blue coloring plus stripes on July 1, 2020. The courts are located in Undine Park off Ord Street between 5th and 7th Streets.
This project converted a lightly used tennis court into a four court pickleball facility. Pickleball is considered the fastest growing sport in the United States. A paddle sport created for all ages and skill levels. The rules are simple, and the game is easy for beginners to learn, that can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players. The basics of pickleball are a combination of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. It can be played both indoors or outdoors on a badminton-sized court and a slightly modified tennis net and is played with a paddle and a plastic ball with holes and in either a singles or doubles format.
The courts are open for play all year long, weather permitting. This project was funded by an Albany County Recreational Mill grant administered by the Albany County Rec Board. Gail Kahn Stakes from the local pickleball club said, “Thanks for the new courts, this will really put Laramie on the map and provide thousands of hours of enjoyment.” The local pickleball club is working towards the purchase of additional windscreen for the new courts.
