Q. What do I have to do to receive the bail money back?
A. Bond money is returned to the individual posting the bond if it is indicated on the bond affidavit the money may NOT be used for fines and costs and the case has been resolved. An affidavit is filled out when the individual posts the bond and they elect to have the bond money returned to them or have it used toward the defendant’s fines and fees. This affidavit process occurs prior to the defendant being released from incarceration. Once the defendant has been found guilty, pleads guilty, is found not guilty, or the charges have been dismissed, a check will be mailed to the individual who posted the bond the Friday following the final disposition of the case. There is no given time when the bond will be returned, it dependents on the details and process the defendant chooses for his or her case.
