Recreation Center Shower Temperatures

Posted on February 10, 2020 at 4:38 PM by Nancy Oakland-Potter

Q.  At the City Recreation Center, why are the showers continually too hot, despite numerous complaints and a new boiler system, which has not made any changes? Is it possible to make the water temperature adjustable by the occupant? Daily they are too warm, especially after working out, and on some days too hot to even stand under. Children can be heard telling their mothers that they are too hot. It would seem this is not cost saving to have these run so warm.

A.  Each Recreation Center locker room is equipped with mixing valves so that water from the boiler is intermixed with cold water to bring water temperatures to a set range of 101 to 105 degrees Fahrenheit. These mixing valves are cleaned monthly in order to keep them functioning properly. Anyone using the showers is encouraged to report shower temperature issues to the front desk so maintenance staff can check the functionality of shower mixing valve as soon as possible.
