WYDOT Highway Chip Seal
WYDOT officials advise motorists that chip seal season is underway on state roadways. Knife River Corporation is the contractor for the work in southeast Wyoming which will continue into July.
Travelers in the following locations will experience delays due to pilot car operations. Motorists are advised to allow themselves a little more time to reach their destination if passing through these areas on the following dates:
Laramie County
Carpenter Road (WYO 214), milepost 0 to 4.4 from June 30 to July 2
Torrington Highway (US 85), milepost 46.0 to 56.6 from July 7 to 11.
College Drive (WYO 212), milepost 0 to 3.3 and milepost 4.14 to 4.48 from July 11 to 15.
Albany County
Woods Landing (WYO 230), milepost 16 to 27.2 from July 21 to 24.
Snowy Range Road (WYO 130), milepost 0.7 to 2.5 on July 25 and 26.
Third Street in Laramie (US 30/287), milepost 327.4 to 400. Work operations on this section will be performed at night From July 16 to July 24.
Carbon County
Shirley Basin (WYO 487), milepost 9.0 to 22 from July 16 to 21.
The chip sealing and micro-surfacing work WYDOT does each summer repairs damage, provides a skid-resistant surface, and saves money by preventing water from getting into the pavement through cracks and potholes. This extends the life of the roadway by five to seven years.
Motorists are urged to be alert when driving through the work zones. They should watch for flaggers, pilot cars, and slow down to the posted speed limits. They should increase the distance between the cars that they’re following to minimize the possibility of damage caused by loose gravel.
