The City of Laramie currently owns two ranches located along the Laramie River. The Monolith Ranch was purchased in 1981 and the Bath Ranch was purchased in 2022. The City's primary interest in the ranches is the water rights associated with the land but manages the property for open space, recreation, and other public purposes into the future.
The land encompassed by these two ranches represents the majority of the Dowlin Ditch water right, which is the oldest water right on the Laramie River. The Dowlin Ditch diverts and delivers the 1868 water right to approximately 2,527 acres of irrigated ground.
